Creatine Effects

Creatine is a protein made from amino acids. The body makes approximately one gram each day from protein. We also eat about one gram of Creatine each day from meats such as beef, chicken or fish. Taking extra Creatine can help our body store more energy. This allows athletes to work harder and perform at a higher intensity. Creatine effects have also been shown to treat people with neuromuscular diseases. However, despite numerous publications on Creatine effects there is little information on the possible adverse effects of its use.

Gastrointestinal disturbances and muscle cramps have been reported occasionally in otherwise healthy individuals who use. Liver and kidney dysfunction have also been one of the suggested Creatine effects. The only significant side effect that has been consistently reported in research has been weight gain. There have also been a number of reported Creatine effects such as stomach problems, muscle cramping, dehydration, and increased risk of muscle strains.

Some people believe that mixing the supplement with certain foods can cause negative Creatine effects. Many of the early studies on Creatine mixed with hot coffee to help dissolve the Creatine indicated that caffeine did not affect muscle usage of Creatine.

Some have also warned that mixing Creatine in acidic solutions such as fruit juices may break it down to form a different substance, yet, the stomach has acid in it normally and we know that Creatine is not broken down during the normal digestive process. Therefore, it is unlikely that mixing Creatine in fruit juice would degrade it unless you let it sit for several days.

Because of the potential for Creatine effects and interactions with medications, dietary supplements should be taken only under the supervision of a knowledgeable health care provider. Side effects of Creatine may include weight gain, muscle cramps, diarrhea, upset stomach, dizziness, high blood pressure, liver and kidney damage. The combined use of caffeine, Ephedrine and Creatine has been associated with at least one report of a stroke. It is believed that the combination of Creatine with herbs or medications stimulates the central nervous system and can contribute to a stroke.

Other Creatine effects of long-term use include nausea and seizures. It may be dangerous to take Creatine supplements while undergoing dehydration for sports such as a wrestling competition or if you are trying to lose weight. No one knows what may happen to important organ systems like the heart, brain, kidneys, liver and reproductive organs if you take Creatine supplements.

Creatine supplements that contain contaminants from the production process have been reported to have negative Creatine effects as well. Be sure to buy products made by established companies with good reputations, and who distribute their products through trustworthy establishments.

While clearly not everything is known about the Creatine effects or its supplementation, a large amount of support suggests it to be an effective supplement when used appropriately.

However, you should always do research and talk to a doctor before using any type of supplement such as Creatine.
