Buying Organic Powder Protein

Organic foods are those foods that have been produced without the use of any pesticides and chemicals that are generally used during the manufacturing process of most foods. No pesticides are used while growing such foods, neither are any toxic fertilizers used to protect the crops. Conventional methods of bioengineering are also not allowed to be used to produce organic crops. In addition to all this, only those growing methods can be used that keep soil erosion at its lowest.

As far as raising organic animals is concerned, these animals are never given any artificial growth hormones to speed up their growth, neither are they given any antibiotics or other medications to keep them healthy. All the feed that the animals are given has to be completely organic and the animals should have freedom to roam the outdoors, without being kept in sheds or barns all day, every day. Only when all these conditions are fulfilled is the resultant product deemed 100% organic.

Thus, powder protein that is made from cows that have been raised 100% organically or from plant foods that have been grown in the right organic manner – only that kind of protein powder can be truly called organic powder protein.

Standardized USDA rules came into effect in the year 2002 for certifying organic foods. If a product is at least a minimum of 95% organic, only then will it be allowed to bear the certified ‘USDA Organic’ seal on its packaging. Thus, when you see this official seal on any protein supplement, you can rest assured that the particular product is truly organic powder protein and is not just claimed to be organic.

Nowadays, there are different categories of organic powder protein available in the markets. Here’s what you need to check on the label and packaging to know how organic the product really is:

· As mentioned previously, if the product has the official ‘USDA Organic’ seal on it, then it is at least 95% organic. Earlier, only 100% organic products could carry the official seal but today even products that are 95% and above organic can bear the seal. You may also see the words ‘100% organic’ on such products.

· If any product lists its organic ingredients on the front side of the packaging but does not bear the official seal, then such products are 70% organic.

· Those organic powder protein products that are not even 70% organic will list the organic ingredients on the side of their packaging. However, the word ‘organic’ will not appear on the label front. Such products typically have a few ingredients that are organic but may not be truly organic in nature.

With the above guidelines, you can now ensure that you buy genuine organic powder protein and not an inferior product.
